Position Overview

Assist the GM, Asphalt Operations & QC in providing technical expertise, support and guidance to Tilcon New York, Inc.s asphalt quality control and Commercial teams, asphalt operations, and to our external & internal customers. Build the skills, knowledge and competencies necessary to becoming an effective frontline leader.

Roles and Responsibilities

(Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Demonstrate continuous leadership in supporting our core values: Safety, Integrity, and Quality.
  • Participate in workplace audits, risk assessments and inspections.
  • Adhere to all applicable regulations including (MSHA) Mine Safety and Health Administration and (OSHA) Occupational Safety and Health Administration affecting asphalt plant production, safety, environmental, state, federal, and company policies; ensure observance and compliance of such regulations.
  • Assist Quality Control Manager in maintaining QC/QA processes for all asphalt and quarry operations.
  • Effectively work in a team environment and provide clear oral and written communication of technical information.
  • Support product quality and customer service through strong communication with aggregate, asphalt and recycle supervision and their associates.
  • Interact directly with internal and external customers through effective communication to satisfy material submittal and testing deadlines.
  • Participate in industry associations. Support and maintain a working relationship with state, local and private agencies.
  • Responsible for all quality control activities required to produce hot mix asphalt (HMA) and aggregate materials that meet all state, county, town, local/private and federal specification requirements.
  • Support product quality and customer service by maintaining strong line of communication with aggregate, recycle and asphalt site supervision and their teams.
  • Interact directly with internal and external customers through effective communication to satisfy material submittal and testing deadlines.
  • Conduct tests on HMA or Aggregates to determine composition and consistency with required specifications.
  • Direct and assist in adjustment of mix composition to ensure HMA stays within specifications.
  • Ability to design HMA that meets or exceeds the required job specifications.
  • Obtain and maintain current QC/QA certifications.
  • Regular and timely attendance is required.
  • Overtime and weekend work required as necessary to meet company goals.
  • Additional duties as assigned or required.

Marginal Duties and Functions

  • Participate in industry associations. Support and maintain a working relationship with state, local and private agencies.
  • Perform business management duties such as maintaining records and files, preparing reports and ordering supplies and equipment.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience:

Required

  • High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED) with 3 years+ of practical work experience.
  • NJSAT certified in HMA Plant and Paving Technician.

Preferred

  • Bachelors degree (B.S. or B.E.) from four-year college or university; or four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 years experience in operations and leadership role.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the preferred knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • High level of proficiency with all Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Working knowledge of various database programs including Viewpoint.

Work Requirements

  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and company procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when required.
  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety Glasses, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, Dust masks & Hearing Protection.
